    Gooseneck broke

Ear broke on my E31I. Welding offered zero strength. Ended up having it machined out of billet. $800.

    Algae in tank

Fuel inspection port is a necessity for cleaning the tank. I set up a fuel polisher with a used Holley Red electric fuel pump and a used Racor 500. Put one end in the inspection port and the other end in the fill tube, and let it run all day. Took out a lot of suspended sediment and water, and...

    Circuit Breaker Replacement and Question

I would not be comfortable with so many hot leads coming off the bus bar. It might be a good idea to install a Blue Sea blade fuse block and buy a large box of misc blade fuses from Amazon. Much easier to dx a problem when fuses are located in one place. -Gary

Need advice on buying handheld Gps please

Current IPhones/Ipads are accurate within radius of ~32ft assuming min no. of satellites. Close enough for marine navigation purposes. If you're within range of cell towers you will get a quicker fix but not more accuracy. Navionics charts are downloaded once. You can check for updated charts...

Need advice on buying handheld Gps please

You could find a used Garmin 76 or 78 series. Basic but very functional. My preference is Navionics on the iphone and ipad. Cell phone signal is not required. If you're concerned about reliability or accuracy of gps signal you could always add a Bad Elf GPS Pro. Battery life is always a concern...

    Gooseneck fractured on E31-I

Thanks for all the helpful responses. The gooseneck is cast aluminum and if a weld shop can't help I'll try a machine shop to see if I can get another cast or at least add some type of reinforcing plate. I'll also send a fax to Lefiell. -Gary (beginning to think it fractured as a result of an...

    Gooseneck fractured on E31-I

Thanks Loren. It's a 1978 boat and a previous owner(s) have made numerous modifications to boom. Can't match it anything currently available at Rigrite. I wrapped it with sta-set for now. If I can't get it welded I'll move to Plan B. -Gary

    Gooseneck fractured on E31-I

Gooseneck fractured. Not sure if I can get this welded. Does anyone know if the boom is the original Kenyon? Might be easier to just replace the boom and switch to a loose footed main? Any info appreciated. Thanks -Gary

    30+ Driveline Questions

M18 should be able to reach max rpm (3200) at idle and cruise at 2600 rpm. If you're not hitting 2600 the prop is oversized in either pitch or dia or both. No engine should vibrate. Check the obvious suspects such as alignment, motor mounts, firing on one cylinder at low speed. Exhaust smoke at...

    Electronics Upgrades

Maine isn't the only state with fog. MA and RI have their share. It can roll in quickly and gps might tell you how to get to the next buoy but radar will tell you how to avoid the barge in front of the next buoy. One of these days I might install a faster heading indicator so I can overlay radar...

    Wilcox Headmate Replacement

Head hoses, if they aint broke them don't touch em. I replaced the original hoses this spring. Not a fun job. Ericson used 1/4 thick rubber with wire reinforcement. Slow going in inaccessible places with a utility knife, wire cutters, and screwdrive. Skin peel on my arms was an added benefit at...

Offer on 1988 32-200 Blue Max

No pictures of sail condition. If they are like the rest of the boat... Post detail views of tack, clew, etc. Reefing points? Reefing lines? No detail pictures of any through hulls. Mainsail cover needs replacement. New Sunbrella covers are expensive. I don't see a dodger. I'm guessing if...

    thru hull head vent...?

One "looks" much better? Is the mesh bright and shiney or green and corroded? If one was corroded I would be tempted to perform some preventative maintenance and replace them both. After all it is a boat and you are obligated to spend every cent you have on it. If money or availability is an...
