You will never believe it, but here is the solution (no pun intended) to the butyl tape removal problem.
HOT WATER!
I am not making this up.
Just plain (very) hot water, makes the butyl tape very pliable, and the liquid helps it slide right off the metal.
It is not just the heat. (I tried using the heat gun). The hot water works! But it really takes very hot water.
