i think that my choke cable is causing my a4 being hard to start. the cable does not seem to be moving when i pull on it. the motor will start but only after much grinding. any thgoughts? thanks

Test your idea by looking for movement, and then manually moving the choke lever (at the engine end of the cable.) The cable could be broken, or the sheath could be loose at one of the end fittings. If the sheath is loose, it could just squirm without moving the internal cable.

...and then replace the cable. They wear out and can't be repaired, and replacement is not expensive and pretty easy.
