how to check transmission oil level - volvo 2003B with ms2 transmission

Hello, I remember reading somewhere to check the transmission oil by NOT inserting the dipstick all the way in (rest the dipstick on top of the hole). The manual simply shows how to remove the dipstick. I found a poll that said to not insert all the way but it was not specific to any model...

    Replacing gasket on Lewmar Hatch

Just a quick update on this thread. We finally finished this in the spring. It's been installed and leak-free. Thanks again Rick and Christian for your post and videos. I purchased dremel attachments to use the tips from the other posters on this thread, but my friend had a free evening...

    larger waste holding tank?

Thanks for all the suggestions on the charger. Too bad Santa already came by. A charger and new holding tank would have fit nicely under the tree. Still, much appreciate the thread drift. The price of a new set of batteries is even worse.

    larger waste holding tank?

Thanks for all the posts on the lewco. Probably a good idea to add another item to the to-do list. Any specific brand and model recommendations? We have two AGMs. Herbert, Here is a link to the old manual. http://www.lewcoelectriccompany.com/Old_Owners_Manual.html

    larger waste holding tank?

Thanks for the tip. On previous pump-outs I've checked for and felt air by the vent. But the only way to know if the vent is partially clogged is to disassemble and clean. It is on our winter to-do list.

    larger waste holding tank?

Reading all these posts from the more experienced, i think I will double check on the charger. I had done a quick check last fall and seemed to remember that it was a 3 stage charger, but it is worth looking into again. Do any of you remember the model of the ferro charger that you all...

    larger waste holding tank?

Thanks Loren, Fortunately, I'm pretty cautious and always use rubber gloves, masks, and eye-protection when working on stuff like this. I had to clean out the anti-siphon valve on the head this summer. We cleaned it thinking that it might be the cause of waste water back-filling the toilet...

    larger waste holding tank?

Thanks for the link Loren, that helps to visualize what is possible but I think we need a much bigger tank (27 might work well). Supersailor - thanks for the picture. Ours is very different and cubish, no tapering. If we use our existing space, maybe we can install a bigger tank that uses the...

    larger waste holding tank?

Hi Herbert, Not positive on the size, but I don't think it is much bigger. I'll try to find the calculations to confirm. On our boat, the waste tank is on a shelf that sits on top of the hot water heater at the extreme forward port side of the starboard lazarette.

    larger waste holding tank?

Hello all, Our holding tank, which I think is stock (approx 15 gallons if memory serves), is too small. Last summer, when crossing Lake Michigan on a 2.5 day trip, the limitations were very apparent. Has anyone replaced the tank on their ericson? We are thinking of something around 30...

    Winter battery storage/care

I've had good luck with this device. https://www.amazon.com/Schumacher-BT-100-Battery-Load-Tester/dp/B000AMBOI0/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1513119617&sr=8-6&keywords=battery+tester It is not too expensive and a great way to prevent being stranded in the cold (I purchased it to test cars but...

    Winter battery storage/care

We have two AGM that we leave in the boat over the Chicago winter. The batteries were new and we wanted to do the job right so we did a fair bit of research. Some tips below. The batteries should be fully charged (100%) and then disconnected. We place masking tape around each cable, number...

    Replacing gasket on Lewmar Hatch

Thanks for all the replies. Great ideas. I'm not sure it is silicone. The PO used silicone in lots of places so I just assumed that I was dealing with silicone given how hard it was to remove. But now I'm thinking it was probably original equipment. Either way, I have a dremel. If I can...

    Replacing gasket on Lewmar Hatch

Hi all, Finally getting around to this repair. Thanks for the post by rick and the video by Christian. They were very useful. The PO used silicon to bed and seal and we are spending much time just cleaning the old stuff. We have the bulk off but there are remnants that will take hours to...

Fueling our boat/re-routing vent hoses/fall project

Thanks for reply John, I should have mentioned our boat is a 1993 34-200. The fill and vent hoses attach to a recessed area on the side of the tank (there are a few posts on this website explaining why this was done, short answer is bigger advertised tank, more space in aft cabin) see...
