Great Job...
You're gettin along in the cleanup and planning. I'll give you one piece of advice (that I was given and didn't act on) get the deck done first. - It's tempting to start inside but your priority is stopping any water from gettin in and all moisture issues from ruining your...

I've been working at it off and on for 4 years - that said... I don't miss much sailing either...
Just the Answer...
That's a great Project. I have the Edson mount but no Pedestal. I'm cheap so I don't want to throw the cash at a whole unit. This is an awesome solution. I'm wondering if the transmission/throttle levers are gonna get in the way. Thanks for posting.

Hatch Installed - Pics
Ok...here tis. For good and for bad. The main thing is - it fits! This has been quite the learning process. I decided last minute to use acrylic for the top...then I brought it to the plastics guy and he said I had to use Lexan because the screw holes were too close...
Delrin
Brisdon,
Thanks for the pics...and the tip on delrin. That looks dooable. I have the hatch frame completed and now just to fit a plywood square for cover and epoxy and finish.
Great job...

For the past 3 months I have been puttering about this hatch Idea...started it. Put it away. got back at it....measured - said bad words. Started again. Ruined one. Started again. Etc.
Now I have the frame built as per original design. With Compound angles, Camber - twists...

toppinglift
Thanks C'apt Dan...
Thanks...thats what I was looking for. My topping lift is adjustable and runs back to a mast base cleat. I'm going with 3/8 halyard line. I'm guessing I'm gonna need 90 feet or so. Mast Height + leech length + a little extra.
Should work out...ordering...
Can anyone out there save me the trouble of going to the boat for a measurement?
I'm going to replace the topping lift and wondering what the measurement would be. I'll take an educated guess from anyone and build in a few feet for error. ;)
How long (and how thick) a line would I need for...
Wood CHoice
Hey John...
I Used Jatoba...aka brazillian cherry. Really hard...very denseand Heavy. I coated with epoxy and now in the process of applying spar varnish. 5/8 inch bronze acrylic sealed with butyl tape and fastened with stainless wood screw - over bored and countersunk.

I've just built two new hatches for out '72, 35-II - pretty much the same design as original. Wooden box with new glass. Has anyone improved the hatch closure system. I'm sure there must be a better option than the original and I don't want to start drilling holes in the acrylic for the...
This is a short video of us bringing my - "new" 1972 E35II "home" to Newfoundland. It's a partial account and includes some general foolishness. - Enjoy
Sailing starts about 3 min into the vid.
