boat leaks
Regarding leaks, I would look at your rubrail first. Starting at the bow, I poured a gallon of water down the rubrail expecting to see some water enter through the screw holes. What I got was nearly the whole gallon coming in, mainly at the lowest point of rubrail (midship). I found...
Is it the end of the fiberglass stucture that forms the storage area? From looking at my E39, it appears that these are five sided fiberglass boxes with endwalls counted as part of the five sides. Mounted so that the open fronts, which are covered by mahog. ply., face inboard.
Steel Floors
As I recall, someone else posted about using g-10 to replace the soft steel floors in their own E-39. As I have removed the one very rusty one forward of the mast step I can tell you there was nothing more than a flat plate resting on top of the keel below the triangle stiffener...
flapping equals friction!
I think I read once that the flapping causes disturbed air flow at the trailing edge which may rob some boat speed, along with premature wear and tear on the leech?

"get a small mirror or something reflective and place it on the ground. Subtract 5 inches from your height and stand that far away from the mirror (in other words, if you're 6 feet tall, stand 5 feet 7 inches from the mirror). Move the...
hoisting generator
"how best to get it up on the bow from wherever it gets stowed which will probably be down below"
Two cents worth, why not use a block and tackle belayed to a spinnaker pole on topping lift?
rudder extension
Boat could be launched but I am still working on a number of other projects. I'll try to remember to post about the rudder when I do get her back in.
thanks for asking.

Leaky rubrail?
Water can run a long way, maybe even from as far away as the bow. Maybe you have a leaky rubrail? During rain the rubrail can act as a gutter till the run-off finds a inside the rubrail, then to a fastener and enters into the interior there (I had more than a few leaks from this...
