    New drinking water filter

Wasn't it Toddster who said that the ordinary "water filter" installed by owners intending to cleanse tankage is actually a bacteria trap? The argument was that they sit unnoticed, growing what they intercept? I have one, installed by the previous owner. Changing the filters is awkward, and I...

    Pre- cut cabin rugs?

Allow me to observe that wooden cabin soles can be painted, like any floor. Just a matter of sanding, maybe filling, maybe even resin for bad sections. Floor paint is common in houses, and could be applied to our boats when cosmetic damage to teak and holly gets bad. If the only need is to...

New propane stove for later Ericson 38

Jon, If you post your ongoing results to that thread, it will keep the information together. A new post there will revive it and make it current. And that thread might be candidate as Master Thread on the topic.

    Pre- cut cabin rugs?

If I needed a cabin sole carpet, I'd probably go to a fabric outlet and look at remnant Nylon carpet, "office carpet," and see what fit the bill. Ought to be short nap, pretty hard, so as to vacuum with a hand-held. Then cut to pattern of the sole, or to desired size. Nylon can be cut with a...

    1987 E34-2 Helm Manufacturer?

The initial links in this thread will let you compare systems YS/Merriman vs. Edson. Few parts are compatible between the two manufacturers. One visual hint is that the tubes of the YS pedestal guard are 12 1/2" apart, and the Edson is a bit narrower, something like 11".

    Burnt rubber smell via exhaust

Check the impeller in the raw water pump. Might have shed a vane. Conceivable that a rubber bit got through the heat exchanger and into the exhaust. Burning oil? I would reconfirm that the engine isn't smoking too much. Exhaust smoke hangs low over the water, normal steam dissipates much faster.

    Yellow stained sails

Bleach. Dacron can handle it. Diluted, with sail to dry in sunlight. Scrub with detergent. It will work some, or a lot, or not much.

    Got Design Questions?

The 32-3 stays are actually easy to inspect, and giving up the close sheeting angle would be a step backwards in time.

    Personal Reckoning

Aha. I thought I was the last to discover "sandpaper cleaning stick." It's a giant eraser, which also works on paper. Used to remove clogged grit, especially on sanding belts. Works, or helps.

    Master Threads (Recurring Topics)

Maybe put the list under the "Resources" tab. I'm not sure it matters where it's located, since the list itself isn't all that useful on it's own. Most of us have a specific inquiry, not a need to see all popular inquiries. The Master Thread label works best when people search. If you search...

    Ericson 23-2 backstay question

Probably better there, for an outboard engine.

    Ericson 23-2 backstay question

It sounds like the short wire might be a "pigtail," or "backstay pendant" intended to support the boom when the sailing day is done. Common on sailboats without a topping lift. If you already have a topping lift, consider removing the pigtail.
