Sometimes the trends in an industry really do work to your advantage. This is one of them. Last month I attended the big fall marine swap in Seattle. Non self-tailing winches are common and cheap because everyone is installing self-tailers.
I see some Barients for sale at every swap meet and lined up along the shelves at every marine used equipment store.
If you need to shop via the 'net, try some of the large outlets like Minneys in SoCal. You will end up with extra parts, by buying a whole winch, but that might be a good thing, too.
