two story headsails

Many years ago I sailed in the company of a classic boat that was narrow, long and lots of sail. She carried two jibs - one tacked at the stem about 3/4 fractional - which overapped the main. The other above it on a stay from stem to mast head - tacked on a long pennant and sheeted way back alomost to the stern - like a flying jib. Anyone seen a rig like this? What are the sails called? The skipper said it was great - used both jibs in light air and dropped the high one as the wind piped up. Sure looked pretty.

More Jibs

I have had this photo in my desktop rotation for many years.
Pretty boat, "Adventure".

Maybe three jibs is better than one or two?

The sail in front going to the masthead would be the jib. The 3/4 fractional would be an inner staysail. Or more commonly now just called a staysail. (even though any sail on a stay could technically called a staysail)

In some older large designs there were three or even four headsails. The names for all of them I do not remember
