Transmission temperature guage

Last year my new ZF15 transmission lost all it's fluid and the forward bearing on the input shaft siezed, bringing the engine to an abrupt halt. The engine temperature guage showed 185-190 degrees at the time, about 25-30 degrees hotter than normal. The tranny itself was hotter than a fritter. It ocurred to me that if a temperature guage of some kind could be mounted on the tranny, I might have gotten an earlier warning of something wrong, and potentially saved myself the cost of replacing the transmission. Does anyone know of a common transmission temperature monitoring arrangement?
