To rebuild or buy new

My E 27 has the old Raritan head and the open close valve top with the screw just broke off,the valve also does not stop holding tank contents from recycling through the bowl when trying to flush dry.I've seen pre 1988 Raritan pump kits at Port supply for around $80 or so but I can get a new Jabsco for Less than $200.
Advice from anyone who has done this before would be greatly appreciated,while it's tempting to just replace the whole thing,the Raritan heads seem to be pretty good quality so maybe I should order the replacement pump? The bowl is still in good shape! Also would the head currently in place be a "pre 1988" ? How does one tell? If there is no way to tell and I buy a complete new pump,will it fit either model? Thanks.

I'm currently caught up in upgrading the electrical system on my recently purchased E25, cb, but will be turning to plumbing issues at some point in the winter. I have a Raritan, model PH, in my boat and am wondering the same thing. From what the company website said, the PH has been out of production for at least 15 years (actually more like 20 years I think), having been replaced by the PHII. I saw a rebuild kit for sale online for about $50. I do, though, wonder, as do you, if this is worth the money.

This year I replaced my original PH assembly with the PHII and it only took about 15 minutes, but cost me near $200.

I still have the old PH assembly--which I think only needs a refresh of the gaskets--but I didnt want to deal with it.

If you want to part it out--I will ship it to you for the price of shipping. Private message me.

I cleaned it up and actually ran it through our dishwasher--all to the dismay of my wife. She got over it and it wasnt very dirty when I put it through the cycle.

Raritan PHII

My 1985 32-3 had a Raritan PHII in it, and when I got the boat it was a problem. I looked at rebuilding it and then decided to buy a new one since it turns out that Raritan still makes it. Since the bolt patern was identical and the hoses would have the same runs etc. turned out to be easy to do and has worked out well. Cost was of the new head seemed ok at the time, it was about four years ago so I don't remember what I paid.

Hi guys,Thanks for the informative replies. Gary thank you for your generous offer to part out your old PH,that's hilarious about running it through the dishwasher,being married I can picture your wife's disdain!
I think I will go the same route of replacing it with the PH11 pump complete.
My local port supply has one for $200 but luckily I have a buddy with a commercial Port supply card which should bring it down to around $120.
Now at least I know the PH11 is just a drop in part thanks to the replies received on this fantastic site! Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
