Make sure mast is straight in boat using tape, halyard, etc. Check mast rake. Dock tune with Loos gauge, lower shrouds 10-12% of wire break strength, uppers 15-20% of break strength. Headstay tension based on sag under sail. Making sure the mast is still in column during the dock tune and afterwards take the boat for a sail in 10-15kt wind, closehauled, sight up mast, check mast to make sure in column on both tacks, and the lee shrouds are not loose. Should be just becoming slack but not bouncing at all. Check headstay for sag. Adjust all accordingly. Mast tuning is more art than science, every boat will be a little different. Tune according to your preferences, a loose rig punishes the boat/rigging more than a tight rig. RT
