Rudder shaft stuffing box

Greetings, All. I once read on an earlier Ericson list, that someone had replaced the flax packing on the always troublesome E32-2 rudder stuffing box with an o-ring. Does anyone have any information on dimensions, material, and where to get such an o-ring? I'm hauling out this year and would like to make a more permanent fix to this problem. Thanks.

Do you mean like an O Ring on a dripless box, or an O Ring for a standard stuffing box? I would love to know about this, as I've a got a problem with my stuffing box as well.

Oops - disregard that - I missed the "rudder" part of that description...

We used a standard o-ring catalog # 2-408-N70. 2 3/8" x1/4".
They may be purchased from any store that handles hydraulic equipment supplies.
