I have an E34; 1987, with a 25x diesel. Does anybody have a good way of putting the impeller back in? I cannot get the LITTLE half moon shaped key to stay in the keyway; it usually ends up against the back of the pump housing.
Thanks!!!!
Try a dab of thick grease (like axel grease) in the slot before you stick the key into it. The grease should hold the key in place as toy slide the impeller on. Good luck!
Thanks, Keith, I have done that in the past.......I did try some heavier teflon based grease and that seemed to make things worse, but will try it again with a non teflon grease. Howard
There is a tool to use to engage that clip and replace it in it's slot on the shaft. It engages the holes on each end of the clip, works in reverse of a pliers action. They come up on amazon, key in retaining clip tool in the search. Best $9 dollars you will ever spend.
Funny you should mention that link Laura. Ordered one from them weeks ago, on back order. Just got a follow up email extending expected delivery date to November. I think it may be on eternal back order, but I guess time will tell. Thanks for the link though.
