We need to remove the companion way cover we have a couple of problems. The companion way cover is leaking where the caulking is and the two areas where you can store wench handles
the wood is rotted. We also would like to remove the traveler track
for painting we are having trouble with the first three screws on either side.We don't know if they are epoxyed or caulked.Any information anyone can provide would be greatly apreciated.

Paul,
Could you provide a little more detail like what model
Ericson you have, is the traveler track original, is it located
over your sea hood and through bolted, etc. If you can
post a photo of it, that would be helpful. The classic case
of frozen fasteners occurs when a stainless fastener passes
through aluminum like a machine screw through an aluminum
track or into an aluminum spar. Some people swear by penetrating oils but I have had better luck with impact
drivers and/or the application of heat with a torch.

Hood over companionway (sea hood)

Thank You for responding. This is a 81 Ey 38 ft. The chanel is first attached to the side blocks with 6 machine screws bolted to the inside then on that sits the track which is bolted to the chanel on either side of the sea hood and thru the sea hood. The problem is that the last 3 screws in either side are not bolted thru to the inside. And we don't know if these last 3 screws are machine screws with bolts below or are they lag type.We also need information on the internal rigging of the boom or is there a
special site were we can obtain a diagram? Thanks,Paul

Paul,
I can't remember exactly how to access those riser
blocks on the early 38's. Perhaps someone who has
one will chime in. If you can get those off as well as the
through bolts on the sea hood, you can remove the
entire track as one unit, flip those blocks over and
you can figure it out from there.
