Genoa Cars and Tracks, or Sailing from the toe rail?

My boat is currently configured to sail the genoa from pullies on the toe rails. I have been contemplating installing tracks and lead cars, but would like some input from the rest of ya'll.

Have any of you done this yourselves? If yes, any gotcha's, hazards, pitfalls of doing the work yourself?

I figure that if I undertake the project, I should be able to sail closer to the wind than I can now. In sailing with some other friends, my boat is faster than theirs, but I have to take a less direct course relative to true wind, and end up losing ground when heading upwind.

Any feedback would be most appreciated.
