Fixing a Broken Teak Trim Molding Cap – They CAN BE saved.

I needed to splice in a new piece to the upper section of the bulkhead separating the main salon from the rear qtr berth. There had been a hole cut that faced the main salon for the AM/FM radio we were now moving to the new electrical panel. (see photos)

When removing the teak trim molding caps from the bulkhead – MURPHY struck sure as ever! No matter how hard one tries, those pieces (especially when old) are prone to break as you remove them.

Of course, as careful as we were, the uniquely curved piece was THE one that shattered. As small as the pieces were, a professional woodworking friend told me it actually can be saved, so I gave it a shot.

I saved all the pieces (and splinters), carefully pre-fitting and then delicately gluing them back in place using Gorilla Super Glue. I then added a narrow strip of very thin glass cloth & resin to the underside to strengthen it even more. It ALL held and life is now good again.

So IF you also break a molding – try to fix it first as some of the pieces especially are really hard to come by.
