That's an interesting set-up. I've never seen a table like that. So it sits atop the two pieces of wood on the sole and folds up into a triangular shape as pictured. It doesn't fold flat, right? If so, I guess that the benefit would be that it allows for the table to be larger than it would if indeed it did fold flat. Is that right?

Your right, it doesn't fold flat, but it sit inside the pieces of wood on the cabin sole. There's a piece of rubber behind it on the bulkhead and a hook to hold the top in place. Once fully open, it can be use from both port and starboard settee witch will give enough room for 4 adults. You can also drop one side to keep better access to the v-berth and head. Let me know if you need more detail.
