30A/125V cable

Replaced shore power inlet and decided to replace entire cable to boat's internal breaker box. Original cable was the yellow type, like the external shore power cable. I replaced with a black rubber 3/10 cable from Home Depot. Just wondering if the black and yellow cables are interchangeable in this application. Couldn't find bulk yellow cable online. Seems like they are the same except for the covering; both 3/10.

I think the issue you might have is the wire is probably not tinned, which means long term corrosion (read heat build up) issues are possible. Hamilton Marine has a good selection of marine wire. Here's shore power stuff like you describe looking for:

and if you scroll down this page, you'll find many flavors of marine wire, including several along the 10/3 lines which is tinned:

I wouldn't be thrown if you see only spool prices - Hamilton has great customer service and I'm pretty sure most things can be bought by the foot.

HD Wire

3-10 J Extension Cord from HD is NOT Marine Grade...sorry....rip it out and put in REAL Tinned Ancor Wire from a Marine Supplier. The J Cord will be CORRODED in a couple years which causes RESISTANCE which causes HEAT which CAUSES FIRES  Beware what you put in your Boat from HD.
Even the stainless screws and bolts are JUNK. Do yourself a favor and stick to Old Hardware Stores and Marine Suppliers for your parts.... and stay away from WM so you have Money for a couple Beers at the end of the day !
