    proper length of whisker pole?

Probably a pretty simple question for a few old salts here, but how much of my "J" measurement should the whisker pole be?

    Ericson 26

I love my little Ericson 26. I'm used to backbackping/mountaineering and sea kayaking, so it seems like I have plenty of room. I took the guys I race with sailing on my boat and they were impressed at how well it sails.

I think the water line is around 22'. I calcuated using 23' cause I'm not good at finding square roots

The Creamy Pint's first island trip

yes sir, that is smugs. It's a pokey 4 horse Yamaha 4 stroke on the back. I didn't go ashore this trip, but did watch two dingys get flipped ass over tea-kettle going in. I've gone ashore at smugs, but always in a kayak, never in the dingy. I don't like the thought of my outboard hitting me...

    Racing an E27

Hey Ragamuffin-- I don't race my precious, slow ass E26, but I've raced on a Ranger and currently race on a Shock 35. Random thoughts-- First off, you and your crew have to realize that you will come in D.F.L. (Dead F***ing Last) for your first season. Do not get discouraged. Get a core...

how hard is it to use a lead line?

Thanks Steve. I'm going to get a hand held depth finder, but it's not on the priority list. Yes, I'm just talking about measuring the depth of anchorages. I don't know how those guys were able to measure 60 fathoms when their clippers were going ten knots in moderate seas.

how hard is it to use a lead line?

Has anybody ever used a lead line? I'm wondering what size weight I need on the end. Is it as simple as putting a knot or mark every fathom and just lowering it until it gets slack?

    1968 e26 pics and advice

I need to scan a photo of mine. I love my little Ericson. I don't have my engine mounted in the well, either. The hatch wouldn't quite close over the outboard I had, so I put a raised grating over the well. Now I keep my stern anchor and some water jugs there. Also, the well is...
