    Universal 25 Air Filter

I have a 1987 E32-3. The engine has a circular air intake on the top of the engine. I opened the top of this anticipating to see an air filter of some kind. There was none. I asked around the dock and other owners said an actual filter wasn't really necesary. Is an air filter needed for...

Stuffing Box Hey Buddy. About one month ago I posted a similar query regarding the rudder stuffing box on my '87 32-3. I had no responses and the gods who oversee this site deleted my call for help. Hopefully you may be more fortunate then I. Mine still leaks...GOOD LUCK..

    Original Interior Varnish

Varnish Problem I had a problem trying to match the interior on my '87 32-3. I finally found the perfect match. It was polyurethane semi-gloss. One thin coat matched it perfectly. I'm not sure if your finish is similar, but it may work. Good luck.

    Rudder Packing Replacement

I appear to have a fair amount of water seeping in from the rudder stuffing box. I've attempted to tighten the bolts, to no avail. I can back them out which means they aren't frozen. I reviewed the 1987 32-3 manual and it gives no info regarding what to use or how to go about doing it. Any...

    Interior Finish & Holding Tank

Try This I have an Ericson 87 32-3. 3 years ago I refinished my companionway stairs. First I tried a flat varnish. It didn't match up. I tried gloss varnish and that was too glossy. I then tried a polyurethane semi-gloss. BINGO! It matched the interior perfectly. It is bright and really...

    New Rudder For Ericson 32-3

Rudder Update I would like to thank you guys for the Foss Foam referral. I called them on 11/27. I explained my situation and was relieved with the response. They said if nothing got bent and nothing got sheared off, then my existing rudder and repair 4 years ago should be fine. He also...

    New Rudder For Ericson 32-3

After reading feedback regarding my saturated rudder I have decided to replace the thing. Does anyone have a source to purchase a new one? I have visions of the existing one falling off while sailing. As previously stated, rust stains 4 yrs ago when hauled led to surface repairs and drying in...

    Steering Adjustment On E-32-3

Hi folks. We have had our "87 E32-3 since 2/00 and have enjoyed it very much. I've noticed that while sailing in 15k or so that the steering seems to "tighten up" when heeled over 20+ degrees or so. The auto helm 3000 belt starts to slip as well. At the dock the steerig is fine. I haven't...

Hurth Replacement Hello. Had to replace transmission on our '87 E32-3 back in June'03. I had a mechanic replace the thing for 1800.00 That was for the trans and labor. He did not remove the engine. We have had no problems since then. I did discover that a slower shifting trans. is the...

Hurth HBW 50 & Things Going "Clunka-Clunka" in the Night...

Hi Sean. Apparently you still have your boat. Glad to hear it. My manual states to sail in reverse to prevent unnecessary trans. wear. Had a new trans. installed in my E-32-3 last July. 1800 total. If the trans is slow shifting, check the fluid level. The 50 only holds about 10 oz. If...

    E32-3 Port Screens

Hi! I purchased new screens 3 years ago at West Marine. They cost about 18 bucks apeice. They are gray plastic framed and snap in from the outside. They fit fairly well. Just don't leave them in when you don't need them. The UV rays kill them. I have a 1987 32-3. Good Luck!

    winch maintenance

WINCH OVERHAUL Hi guys. Two winters ago I decided to overhaul my noisey winches. The gizmo that unscrews the top of the winch is the same tool that unscrews the emergency tiller cover in the cockpit. It is a triangular piece of metal about 8 inches long. Check out the West Marine catalog...
