Warm weather diesel overflow

During the gloriously hot weather on Sunday my fuel take overflow valve started to leak diesel. I filled her up end of season last year when it was pretty cold out but I would not expect expansion enough to overflow the tank????

it makes sense

if the overflow hose diameter is small, it makes sense. I've read of some installing larger vent hoses just to keep the air flow going so the foamy diesel doesn't overflow during filling. But this weather doesn't happen very often where we get temps going from 50 to 93 in 2 days. It's been a very rapid warmup.

This happened to me two or three seasons in a row, until the yard manager asked me to PLEASE not fill my tank up all the way in the fall prior to haul out. The tank gauge was pretty accurate and precise, so I just calculated what it took to get up to 15/16 of full, and left it at that. Problem solved.
