Help!
S.O.S.
I own a late model A-4.
I opened the cover for the transmission to remove excess oil to prep a potential shaft seal replacement on the advice of a boat yard friend. After the cover was off, I reached over the opening to the transmission with a rachet and a 7/16th socket was bumped loose and fell, in very dramatic style, bounce, bounce, bounce....pause...NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
...into the transmission housing (direct drive)
Uh oh.
I used extended grabber thingies, telescoping mirrors and lots and lots of searching by feel with no results.
1. Does anyone have advice for finding a foreign object in a transmission housing...with transmission in it...while the engine is on the boat?
AND...
2. Is this socket deep down and I should not worry?
or ...
3. Am I in deep do-do and will have to pull the engine to take off the oil pan and find a the socket.
The winner of this puzzle gets a free sailing tour of Milwaukee Harbor.
Thanks
Matt
