Self-Tailing Winch Question

Is there any standard as far as where the line lifter is positioned on a self-tailing winch? Is it different for port or starboard winches?

I seem to recall that the "stripper" at the top should face you when you operate the winch. On my Lewmar's, this can be easily re-oriented by removing the screws that secure the top ring on the winch.
So, port and starboard combing winches would indeed be different.

Anyone else? Class? Bueller???

As Loren said, the tailing arm should be approximately pointed at the line puller person. The goal is have the line in the self tailer for nearly the whole circumference of the winch for maximum grip, and for the line to drop out of the tailer inside the cockpit and not outside the boat.
