As heart-wrenching as Captain Larry's loss of his boat, but sadder because they didn't really mess up whereas Captain Larry did.

First - thankfully no one was hurt or killed.

That being said, it is a hard read because he keeps going over in his mind what he could have done differently. Very scientific approach. I feel for him because he tried everything - which is why he is alive writing about it.

It is quite the story, and reminds me of how nice it is as a sailor to live on The Chesapeake. His description of the other ports, lack of charting, weather information and general conditions really reinforce how lucky we are to have resources like NOAA and the USCG.
