Preparing teak handrails for installation...

Should the surfaces that will be bedded onto the cabin top be sealed or given a coat of varnish before installation?

I've never used Butyl Tape before but I'm leaning in that direction...

Any suggestions?

I will be doing the drilling and epoxy filling routine of the holes on the cabin top.

You want to protect all surfaces of the teak from water if you are varnishing the rails. Counter sink the holes and use the butyl tape and life will be good. If you find a finish that lasts two years let me know.

It's my understanding that the mounting surfaces needed to be sealed to prevent the Butyl from drying out.
