Hi,

Anyone know how to remove the screws on the mast head fixture. The screw is movable but we can seem to take it out.

The plan was to attach a bracket to the mast using those screws so that we can install a wireless wind sensor. But it seems to be a "dead screw" and the only way to take it out is to remove the whole fixture. Don't think we can do that without removing the mast.

Any advice would be appreciated.

By, "dead screw" I am guessing that you mean that the threads are stripped and it just turns and turns and the screw never backs out. Try to clamp the head of the screw with vise grip pliers and twist the pliers to unscrew the screw simultaneous to pulling outward on it. You have to get a good grip on that screw head, but Sometimes you can get it out a small amount. Then if you have a small gap try a flat blade screwdriver under the head and apply twisting force under the head as you again twist the screw with the vise grips. With the screw turning, as you indicated, it should come out as long as you can reach it at a good angle (like 90 deg) and you can twist and pull simultaneously.

If you are successful and you get it out, you will have to either use a larger, oversized screw or install a "nutsert" thread insert.

Good luck!

Have tried that but it does not seem to work . Was wondering if it is by design , cos both sides feels the same. Will probably give it a go again .

If you move the halyard out of the way can you see the fastener through the sheave box?

I'd be very surprised if there's a nut on the inside end, but... from what you're describing, it's possible.
