One of my first projects on my 1986 Ericson 38-200 was to replace the old instruments and get a chart plotter. To mount them, I went with a NavPod, including one of their pedestal guards and a top plate adaptor that they make for the especially for old YS/Merriman pedestals.
The old stuff was due for an update:
Back of the old original guard and pod:
Rusted stainless on the old guard fused it to the feet:
Some tools to persuade them to come apart (the torque you can apply from a pipe wrench really did it):
Pedestal disassembled for a new top plate:
NavPod's top plate adaptor next to the original plate:
The new top plate moves the feet back slightly from their original position:
New NavPod and guard, with the cockpit table mounted again:
The new instruments (Raymarine Axiom+ 9" and i70s). Still need to hook up the wind instrument and depth sounder, but so far, so good. I decided to leave the guard at its full length and not trim it down, as this way the top is out of my line of sight when I'm sitting at the helm.
All-in-all, I'm very happy with the setup so far.
