I felt much more secure just stopping the forward motion within a foot of the dock and stepping ashore with (...) lines in hand - much less to go wrong.
100% agree.
Only difference is, it's just "me".
So when I've got the boat in the right place, I step off with one line amidships, which will keep her from wandering off before I can get bow-, stern- and spring-lines secured.
