Mast wiring and unwanted water migration

Loren posted recently about "gooping the 2 holes in the mast", an action undertaken as a preventative measure to force interior mast water (there are a few gaps in these masts that allow water to invade) to bypass the wiring exit hole and exit at the base of the mast, where the bilge pump sends it out of the boat.

It wasn't quite a "Eureka!" moment (no running naked through the streets), but...it did click in with this question "why didn't I think of this previously?".

With a mast step immanent, as early as Friday May 7, a quick trip to the yard to find the mast and 'goop' the hole was in order. Done! The perimeter of the hole will be trimmed prior to stepping the mast, 100% for aesthetics, as no one will see this 'fix' once the mast is stepped.

Thanks Loren, I'll let you know if it worked..
