Just pulled off the forward hatch, main hatch and the hatch boards. Here they sit on my workbench. What next ??? I have 0 wood on my Mac so this is all new to me. Any advise before I start sanding ?

Remove the varnish

Any trace of varnish, paint etc? Use a quality Chemical Stripper or heat gun. If not your sandpaper will gum up and be useless after a couple of strokes.

On my main hatch the soft grain was worn away and the wood was not a flat surface. I liked the look and did not want to sand the wood smooth but the stripper did not want to get everything out of the grooves. I used a soft wire brush to do the final cleanup and sanded with a scotch sanding pad. The results were very good.
