Instrument cables extensions?

Hi, all,

one more newbie question... As one of my previous posts states, we are trying to install Navman 3100 Multi on our new old boat. Problem is - transducer cables are too short. Extensions from Navman are somehow hard to get; most probably, if one needs them, the nearest palce is New Zealand... So, electrician reluctantly proposed to extend them with standard cables of the same type, which will require two splices on each cable. While it is probably OK on depthsounder (just a coaxial cable), the speed/log/temp cable is a four-wire shielded cable... Did anybody do something like this?

Thanks in advance,
Stanly

I recall from the literature for my Datamarine depthsouder that the transducer was tuned for a specific length of cable and that it could not be extended or shortened. I know this does not apply to the DM knotmeter because I have spliced that with new coax and it works as well as those instruments can. However, you do not have coax for this instrument. You should contact Navman for a definitive answer.
