An interesting obituary for George Olson, the designer of the the Olson 34 et al.

Since the Olson 34 was a "house design" at Pacific Boats, with no individual designer of record, that may well be true. If so, that's a pretty good pedigree.

I do know that the late Carl Schumacher did design the Olson 25 and the Olson 911s. Carl once told me, in a short email exchange, that he "did not design the Olson 34, but they did use the rudder (from his O-911s) with my permission."

I did not ask him any more questions about my O-34!

I have met several of his friends over the years and all spoke very well of him as a really great down-to-earth kind of guy.

Since our O-34 is nearly a dead ringer for the hull of Schumacher's Express 34, I could understand why the late N.A. was not real pleased.

Now, all this stuff is just fodder for some obscure version of Trivial Pursuit.
:nerd:

Regards,
Loren
