Hello all again -

Thanks for all of the help in my past posts! Here is my latest tasks I would really appreciate any insight you can provide:

'87 E32 with M25-XP, Seriel #500133

Water (fresh water) is beginning to leak. From research and posts here, I have come across two different model numbers for the Kubota water pump to make the repair: #15443-73030 -or- #15534-73030. Which is the correct number? I did get consistent number on the gasket, #15676-73430 (confirm?).

Also, need to replace the oil drain kit. Got number from Westerbeke of #300724 with a price from local Gatewood service provider of $120. Is this correct.

Since I will be doing these, I will tackle the raw water impellar. I haven't done any research on it yet. Any info or coaching is appreciated.

Best to all,

Rick

Photos easier to read for me if vertical.
So I rotated them.
Our M-25XP came with the late-80's optional oil drain kit. I have rebuilt it once with a new hose and reused the original "banjo" fitting. It really makes oil changing a lot easier.

Rick - I used Kubota 15534-73030 pump on my 1987 M-25XP. It came with a hose barb for the hot water heater bypass connection, somewhat of a PITA. I have since found the Kubota 15552-73030 which is the same pump with the threaded port for the pipe fitting on the engine. This per:

http://www.mid-lifecruising.com/2010/08/kubota-parts-for-universal-diesel.html

The two pumps are listed for the same Kubota tractor models.

For the raw water pump impeller you may want to get a pair of snap ring pliers with fine tips. I also got some replacement snap rings which for me keeps the original one from getting lost. They are 1/2". The pliers are on sale at Harbor Freight for $4.

Thanks - further confirmation

Thanks Tom and Loren -

Tom - can you confirm that the 15534-73030 and the 1552-73030 were for the original Universal #300203 (spec for your boat)? I have talked to a Universal dealer and a Kubota dealer, and I now have a total of 4 part numbers. The Universal dealer said they could not tell me the Kubota cross reference to the 300203 that they confirmed for my seriel number (and said they wouldn't even if they could...@ $281 from them, this is why mariners get so frustrated with being ripped off sometimes). The Kubota dealer I called couldn't cross reference to the Universal (although they offered to do some more research).

Long and short, I have now come up with these part numbers, which have all been referenced to the M25-XP in one way or antother: 15534-73030 and 15552-73030 (Tom - thanks), 15443-73030 and 15531-73030. Given this is a special order, I am trying to get some level of certainty. Any more thoughts anyone?

Also, on the raw water impeller, the Universal dealer told me they can order the spare rings you mentioned, but stated they are not critical...sound right?

Thanks again,

Rick

Rick - I used the 15534-73030 with the nipple and the Catalina guy used the 15552- with the threaded port.

My 1982 Kubota parts manual lists the 15531-73030. I found where the 15552- model replaced the 15531- model (Messick's.)

Messick's also shows the 15443-73030 was replaced by 15443-73033. I couldn't find a pic of either of these which makes me think that they are not common.

That covers the four you mentioned. You owe me some research time.

I found the 15534- unit locally at a large Kubota sales/service dealer cheaper than I could get it on the net with shipping.

Next time I would buy the 15552- model next time.

I have heard that the snap ring isn't important, but since someone thought it was and they are readily available at a good hardware store I got some. I certainly wouldn't buy them from a Universal dealer.
