Greetings to the forum, after 3 years of happiness and value I’ve decided to sell my E31. Here is your chance to own a classic blue water sailing vessel that is highly sought after by those that know them. For sale is ‘Ranger’ a heavy fiberglass sloop and the only Ericson Cruising 31 in San Diego, this is the sloop version of the Independence model. I would encourage potential buyers to read up on the Independence line if they are not already familiar.
She is hull number 16 of 70 built by Ericson at the Deere Ave. location in Costa Mesa. I routinely get asked if she is a wooden boat due to her traditional shape.
I’m moving to Seattle for work and debated taking her with me but I think she would be happier here. She has had tens of thousands spent on her refit and upkeep, including complete repainting of hull sides and bottom paint in local yard in September of ‘21. Alexseal 501 epoxy, and barrier coat used throughout for maximum longevity.
She has a newly built mahogany main hatch and nicely varnished wood, her interior is excellent shape and no deck leaks have been detected.

Her motor is the Universal M-20 3-cylinder diesel with 20 horsepower, installed in 2008 and runs excellent, hours estimated around 1500.
I’ve been a sailor almost all my life and I’ve never encountered a more balanced or better sailing craft, she is stiff in heavy breeze but able to outpace newer and larger boats.
There is too much to list here in things done for gear and refitting but she could be capable of crossing the Pacific with a spare set of sails and if you were to install the Aries self steering system that comes with her. She is an ideal boat for living aboard and enjoying cheap rent on the water, her head has an air pressure shower system with electric sump pump for gray water. Leave a message on my voicemail if I don’t answer.
Listing at $23,900 obo. Walter 760-415-8348
