When we returned from a recent day sail in about 10 - 20knts yesterday I noticed that the starboard port (not the opening port but the fixed port) was shattered. It looks like the lead car may have hit it but that seems unlikely. A friend suggested that my rig may be too tight. Any advice on the cause and on the repair as far as thickness and source of new glass would be greatly appreciated.

I'm wondering how tight the rigging would have to be to deform the cabin enough to shatter the portlight. I know the bottom part of the metal frames on my portlights are kind of beat up from the old genoa cars banging on them. The cars that are on there now are lower and don't flop around as much as the ones with the spring in the bottom. Sounds like it is possible that this is what happened.
