E38 - Universal 5432 - Thermostat Part Suggestion

We have a 1982 E38 with a Universal 5432. We are replacing the thermostat with a 160 degree version. I saw someone who took a photo of the CarQuest 31979 (which is a 195) but Advanced Autoparts does not have a 160 part number.

Does anyone have a suggested company and part numbers for us to order both a 195 degree and 160 degree thermostat for our engine? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

180 degrees is another option

I installed a Carquest #31978 thermostat (180 degrees) upon the recommendation of some owners on this forum about 9 years ago. This seems to keep the temperature between 180 and 190 all the time on Lake Michigan. The engine seems quite happy in that range.

I too switched to a 180 degree thermostat on my M25XP a couple seasons ago when my previous thermostat went south. I figured there was not much possibility of overheating as the engine was running all the time at 135 degrees with the bad thermostat. Since switching, the engine has never exceeded 180 degrees and the engine runs smoother and without any smoke. That wasn't true prior to the switch. The Kubota D-950 runs at 180 so, why not?
