We have a 1982 E38 and are currently cruising in Mexico for the next two years with our kids. We have a, "Raritan 1700 - 6 Gallon - Exhanger/120v AC" Hot Water Heater (HWH) currently that looks it pretty bad shape. We have taken over our shower for storage so never us HW for showering. HW is used for dishes (when plugged into shore power) and occasionally for a cockpit shower. I was going to replace with what we have, but someone suggested looking at Instant HWH, either propane or 120v AC. I wondered if anyone had any suggestions regarding these choices? I find that the HW gained from running the engine for us is not very useful as it only lasts for 8 or so hours after a decent motor. We are also having an engine overheating issue and this coolant loop could be a culprit so I'm considering bypassing the HWH / coolant loop regardless.
