E34T Diesel Engine

Does anyone have any first hand experiences with the 16 HP 2 Cylinder Yanmar which was a replacement motor for some of the 30-35 foot Ericsons? I don't have a model number but the one I am referring to is the raw water cooled version.

Yanmar Engine

My best guess is that at 16HP, it is the replacement for the old 2Qm15....

I had one in my last boat from 1979 to 2006, and to my knowledge the next owner is still very happy with it.....Pretty much bullet proof.....easy to maintain.....with one small exception it was really trouble free.....

If there are any specifics you want, and I can answer.....just get back...

Mort,

Thanks. That is helpful. I am trying to get the model number. The only thing I have heard is some issues resulting from old fuel. This guy didn't have a racor system but installed afterward.

Thanks again,

2QM 15 vs 2GM 20

Here's are a few links to data on the;

Yanmar 2QM 15 (1980s' vintage)
http://www.motoren.ath.cx/Download.php?filename=/yanmar/2qm15.pdf
(type in the confirmation code to access)
Yanmar 2QM 15 Service Manual
http://www.motoren.ath.cx/Download.php?filename=/yanmar/2qm15service.pdf
(again, type in the confirmation code to access)
or
Yanmar 2GM 20 (1990s' vintage)
http://mysite.verizon.net/knellew/yanmar2gmrebuild/id2.html

You will have to compare your engine to images contained in these service manuals to identify which model you have. Also realize these these manuals would have both raw water and heat exchanger versions depicted.
Hope this helps

Greg,

Thanks for your reply and valuable info. I am trying to get the model number now. I am suspecting the 2QM15 is indeed the animal and if it is, there seems to be lots of good things said.
