Good day all, my first posting to this forum....
My wife and I are down the path towards purchasing an Ericson 34... The survey found an area of rot in the forward bulkhead at the foot of the V-berth which needs to be repaired as a result of a leaky stanchion base beside the chain locker... There have been two suggestions for repair, one to scarf in a new piece where it is rotten under the door that accesses the very forward area , the other to replace the whole bulkhead. Obviously the latter is much more expensive.
Was wondering if a) anyone has had this problem and had it repaired and;
b) if anyone can comment on how important this bulkhead is structurally?
A full new bulkhead will likely have to go in in two pieces, and obviously the scarf joint will create a seam and the corresponding structural issues as well. I've had a few different opinions and talked to the surveyor about it but was wondering if any one else had any thoughts or comments? They would be most appreciated. Thanks
