I have a 1978 E32 with a Yanmar 2QM20H sea water cooled engine and would like to repower with either a 20+ HP Yanmar or Beta Marine. At this point, I am leaning toward the Beta Marine. Any experience in swapping out the 2QM20 with a Beta Marine BD722 or BD902 would be greatly appreciated. Note both Beta Marine engines are a few inches shorter than the Yanmar. Is a coupleing available to make up the difference or will I need to install a new shaft? The Beta Marine mounts are also 2 or 3 inches narrower than the Yanmar. Does anyone have plans for new mounts? The existing rails are fiberglass and solidly bonded to the hull.
