E27 Boom Vang

Hi guys. New boat for me. Mine is '76. Has pedistal steering. Came w/ Harken furler, MPS sail/sock & complete selection of sails Would the addition of a boom vang be a logical improvement? Thanks, in advance, for the pros and cons.

Vangs are good...

The short answer is yes -- hard to imagine sailing without one, IMHO.
Do a search on this site (small search icon at upper right). Put in "vang" or "boom vang" and you will find a wealth of material to study.
Now that solid vangs are more affordable, I would go with one of those. Then you can get rid of the topping lift.

Best,
Loren

Go vang yourself!

As usual, Loren is right. "Once you go rigid,.... " well, you get the idea.
All of the makes and models out there are fine for your boat, so go with price and how it "looks" to you.

Say "buh-bye" to your topping lift, getting banged on the head when you lower the sail or reef, and add another dimension of sail shape and boat trim (handling/helm) control.
Have a ball!
