Your J=10.16' according to the specs on this site. If you want to race the boat you would build your pole such that when clipped onto the mast it did not extend past that length from the front of the mast. If you are not planning on racing and just want a pole to use for kites then anything in the neighborhood of 10-11 feet should work fine. Poles generally should be 100% of J including the mast fitting. You may find a teloscoping pole that works well for your boat and can be adjusted to use as a whisker pole on a genoa or jib as well as a kite. I have never been a fan of these because they corrode and lose their adjustability and are usually not as strong as a fixed pole.
