E-29 Repower

Innocent Bystander
My slip fees and boat mortgage payment were entirely covered and paid off with my (tax-free) Navy housing allowance, and then the boat was trucked at government expense from San Diego to Pennsylvania. So if you were paying taxes between 1991-1995, thank you very much, and I still have the boat.

The A4 is an entirely solid engine, and if yours isn't acting that way, it can be made to be. I think it's a waste of time and money to change propulsion systems on a 30+ year old boat unless you have a lot of time or money on your hands. If it is truly range you seek - and I would challenge this assertion pretty hard - then get a different boat.

Hi Respected Sailors Thanks the Navy and USMC were very good to me. The noisey hiking and camping adventures convinced me that sailing vacations were the best way to spend my free time. Two years and twenty three months service earned four years of the GI Bill. Thanks to you all!

Different states likely have different programs, but our state has its own veteran's home loan program (thru the Oregon Dept of Vets Affairs) , for many decades.
That's how we financed our home. I only had to show my DD214, and got a very good rate with no pay off penalties and they never sell their loans.

Since there is no way for the new generation of loan "specialists" to make a commission on this, they will seldom mention it, and while it is publicized thru veterans organizaions, it really kind of flies under the financial radar.
It was wonderful to have the same loan officer available to answer any question, before we built, during, and afterwords for the duration of the loan. (!)
Something to check on, tho.

Good luck,
Loren

ps: one of our older club members is putting his PSC 27 Orion on the market next week. Lovely boat!
pps: couple of my retiree friends are old Marines... and they still insist that Navy guys only existed to act as bus drivers for the important people... like Marines! :)

As I understand it, you have to be buying an actual house to qualify for this. I wish a boat counted because I'm a live aboard, and plan on living aboard when I go to school too.

Orions are cool boats! PSC is made about 2 hours from me. They do tours on fridays, I still need to make it up there.

Thanks!

I wish I'd gotten housing allowance while I was in. Gotta be married or an E-6 to qualify for it in the MC.

That's pretty solid logic. I've decided I'm gonna go with an A-4, mostly because of this thread.

Thanks everyone for the advice!

I still have my Parked Out A4

Thanks!

I still have my parted out A4, rusting the basement of my house... Of course it in Long Island NY, which is a long ride from NC. But if you need parts they are yours for the taking.
I was going to one day rebuild it... but and in 15 years I have done nothing with it. It is completely in parts.

hahahaha they're right! I was in the amphib navy. That was our job: drop the grunts off ashore. If we sunk after that, no one would care. Mission accomplished. (tongue in cheek) I totally respect the Corps. (not tongue in cheek)

It's funny, on board ship we'd get in each other's way and grumble at each other- sometimes worse. But ashore, if a sailor got in trouble, guess who'd come to the rescue? A Jar head! Seems some of them were just looking for a reason to fight.

I have free A4 parts for you... A complete disassembled A4 in my basement.
Transportation is the issue.
