Cutlass Bearing on an E-28

I am in the process of purchasing an E-28 1987 and the engineer strongly advised that the Cutlass Bearing be replaced to avoid secondary damage.

Unfortunately, where I live in Huntington, NY none of the local boat yards have the proper 3/4" tool to pull the bearing out, so it may necessitate a larger job involving replacing the propeller shaft and removing the rudder.

Does anyone have any advice for me before I close this transaction? Anyone know about replacing the Cutlass Bearing and know where in the Huntington area I can find the right tool to have the bearing pulled and replaced without going through all that extra work?

Thanks for your urgent reply.

I'm surprised you're having difficulty.
As a part of the survey on the 1988 E-28 I purchased last Fall, the cutlass brg. was replaced by the boatyard with the boat in dry winter storage. My recollection was that the cost came to $63.00, so it couldn't have been as potentially extensive as you describe.
Maybe you could call the yard that did the work on mine and get some help.
Work was performed by Noank Village Boatyard in Noank, CT.
