Coolant

Hi
I own an E38-200 in the cockpit starboard storage area there is a small metal tubular shaped tank installed in the cooling system of the engine and connected to this tank is a very small top up reservoir made of plastic, should the metal tank be kept full with coolant or should the top up reservoir "only" be kept topped up with coolant?
Info would be appreciated,
Bruce

The metal tank should be full with a radiator pressure cap on it in good condition. Check when cold. The plastic tank is the overflow. When you change the coolant, remove the pressure cap from the tank and the engine, fill from the tank and cap the engine once it's filled, then finish filling the system from the tank. Designed to avoid air locks in the system, especially in the water heater supply lines.
