centerboard pivot pin

Hi all, new to site, new to sailing (large boat, 10 years sunfish sailing), and new to my 1974 e25 just brought home tuesday. Pivot pin is sticking out about 1/2 inch and not sure how it is secured or the best way to slide it back. If anyone could steer me in the right direction would be great, and is this a common problem? Thanks Art

Art,

Congrats on your purchase of the E25, and welcome to the forum. The pivot pin is an essential component of the centerboard system. It should be flush with the pivot pin hole in the hull. You might be able to see, on the end of the pivot pin that is projecting, that the end of the pivot pin is wedge shaped. You might also be able to see a small hole in this wedge-shaped end. It is through this hole that a stainless screw is run. This screw, and the one other the other side of the pin, are what hold the pin in place against the hull. Here's a picture of a boatyard owner extracting my pin. Gotta run.
