I have a 1974 E 25 centerboard that needs core replacement on the cabin top. I need suggestions/advice from anyone who has done this repair and how to keep it from leaking and rotting again.
Thread now moved. This should reach a few more Ericson owners concerned with maint. issues.
There is good commentary here in the archives on cabin tops and coring issues in that area and support posts, and... etc.
Its primary advantage is that it seals out moisture by itself, plus it is easy to work with, and very lightweight. However, it can be hard to find, since the manufacturer does not ship direct to the customer, and very expensive as a special order through a boat yard.
Wet core is one of the jobs that often turns out to be a lot bigger than it first looked after you start digging.
