Bottom Paint Stripping

Last fall 20 some years of nasty bottom paint was removed from our 82 E33. Between 2.5 gallons of Soy Stripe and many 1 inch razor blades, I got down to gel coat. Launch date came before barrier coat could be applied, so she splashed with a thin coat of cheap bottom paint. Kind of lucky for me, since shortly after paying the boat hauler $300, I got to give another $300 to the boatyard to haul her out before she filled with water. Seems that my scrapping efforts last fall disturbed the bedding compound on a nasty thru hull fitting. That only took 3 days of hellish labor some skin, and another $300 worth of parts, ie hoses, 2 sea cocks, brass fittings etc to repair. Right after the paint removal, a new style heat exchanger was installed, the 3 inch unit for the m-25. That works pretty slick as it dropped the operating temp from 190 to 165 f. Guess this fall I will be replacing the remaining thru hulls before appling barrier coat!
