With a little help from a local sailmaker to cut a slot for the backstay I was able to order an off the shelf Taylormade bimini thru Defender for my E-27. I will try to take some pictures this weekend. All total about $325.00 here in Annapolis.
I happened across your post that mentioned the Taylor Made bimini and I had also been thinking of taking this route myself. I would be very appreciative if you could provide me the measurements and the alterations that were necessary so I could go ahead and order the same for my e27.
I ordered my Taylormade bimini thru Defender. It is
67-73" wide x 4" length x 36" high. I mounted it on
the stantions that support the sides of the stern
rail. Those mounts were bought seperate. I have 1"
rails and stantions all around. I then hired a local
sailmaker to cut a hole and put a zipper in both the
front section of the top to fit around the backstay
and the boot.
This has been the best purchase for my 27. Finally
out of the sun all the time. Total cost was around
$325.
Are you able to sail with your bimini up, or is it strictly at anchor & in the slip use?
By the way, we have a very simple & cheap shade (courtesy of the PO) made from Sunbrella over PVC tubing & long bungees for attachment. The PVC arches over the boom with the ends held down by the bungees. It rolls up & stows easily & is functional at anchor or in slip.
When I had it made I decided that I only wanted it for anchor and slip use. Things have changed and I may modify it a little. I would like the ability to use it when sails are up because the last couple of years the sun has been beating on me. I will ask Ron from Anacapa Canvas to modify it for me. He needs to cut a few inches off of the stainless steel. He only charged me 475 to make and install. One of my best investments.
